Our Story

It’s hard to imagine, but this stunning brick building with its large and inviting windows was once a repair shop for Island trains and locomotives. As the CN Car Shop, it served an important role during the bustling railway era, ensuring trains could transport people and goods across the Island. However, by the 1970s, rail saw a decline across the country. PEI’s railway line was officially closed on December 31, 1989, leaving the future of this historic building in limbo. Luckily, it wasn’t for long. By 2001, the building was fully restored, refurbished and re-imagined.

Today, it is home to a diverse mix of local restaurants and retail shops, alongside a welcoming visitor information centre. A destination for tourists and locals alike, Founders’ Food Hall & Market has something for everyone. Enjoy a bite of delicious local food. Relax with a drink on the outdoor patio. Find a gift for that special someone.

An eclectic schedule of events and activities ensures there is something for the whole family. Bring the kids out for a family fun day. Listen to local musicians and DJs. Participate in workshops, tastings and demonstrations. Open year-round and 7 days a week.

We look forward to welcoming you!
